English For Kids : The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle

This week's lesson is all about spiders!! I used Eric Carle's "THE VERY BUSY SPIDER" as the theme story.

Those who read to their little ones would be familiar with Eric Carle or at least his distinctive collage illustration style. This book is about a spider who was so focused on spinning her web that she did not respond to any of the distractions from her fellow animal friends in the farm.

Immediately after telling the story, we played the "Catch the bug" game where I made a spider web from my laundry basket. The children, pretending to be a spider, should try to catch and name the bug they draw from inside the basket.

We proceeded with making a paper spider during the craft session, and an edible Oreo spider during snack time. The Oreo spider did not survive too long on the kids plate as they gobbled it up in no time. =D

Before we dismiss, we did a little puzzle with the objective of recalling all the characters in the story and what they said in the attempt of distracting the very busy spider.

At the end of the lesson, I felt as if we were on a roller coaster ride going from one activity to another. A very busy morning indeed for all of us, but it was fun!
